Recipe
Raw rice – 1 cup
Moong Dhal – 1/4 cup
Jaggery – 1 cup
Coconut – 1/2 cup
Cardamon powder, pinch of salt, ghee.

Water to cook rice, dhal –
3 & 1/2 cups

Water to melt jaggery – 1/4 cup

Use same cup for all measuring.

Wash and soak rice for 30 minutes. Dry roast moong dhal, wash and soak it for 20 minutes.
Stain the rice keep it for 20 minutes. Powder it in a dry mixi jar to fine rava. Dry roast the rice rava for 2 minutes.
In a cooker add 3 & 1/2 cups of water, pinch of salt, add rice rava, moong dhal, mix well. Close and cook in medium flame for 1 whistle. Or you can cook in a open pot, as like upma.
Once steam down open, mix well as shown, break lumps. Boil jaggery with water, add it to the batter, mix well. Add cardamon Powder, coconut, ghee. Mix well, close and keep aside for 20 minutes.
Now apply ghee in hand and shape it as shown. Put in a steam plate or idly plate, steem it for 5 minutes. Soft Mothagam is ready for Ganesh Pooja..
It will soft even after long hours. You will get more than 20 pieces for this measuring.

Note :
Use same cup for all measuring.
Use same measuring water and cook in medium flame for just one whistle. Other wise it may burn in bottom.

Tip
You can mix 3,4tsp modakam mavu With one glass of milk, boil, add fried Cashews adjust sweetness by adding more jaggery, and make a payasam.
