Let us see a different, healthy and colorful rasam, Beetroot Rasam. It can be eaten as a rasam with rice and as a soup.It will be very colorful so, children will enjoy and it will be also very nice and different for your guests.
Beetroot – 1 ( 150 Gm)
Tomato – 2
Tamarind – Amla size
Green chilly – 1
Garlic – 5 cloves
Coriander seeds, jeera, pepper, thour dhal – 1 tsp each
Red chilly – 3
Salt,ghee, hing, mustard seeds, curry and Coriander leaves.
Peel the skin and chop beetroot. In a cooker add 1/4 tsp of ghee and fry beetroot for a minute. Add tomatoes, tamarind, salt and 1 glass of water. Cook for 1 whistle.
Dry roast thour dhal, 2 red chilly. Powder it along Coriander seeds, pepper, jeera. Crush garlic cloves.
Stain the cooked water from beetroot, let it cool. Grind it to a smooth paste, by adding little water.
Add the grinded paste and cooked water in a pan and allow it to boil. Add grinded powder, garlic, hing and around 2 glass of water and mix well. Check the taste and adjust the consistency and salt, if needed.
Now do not disturb, do not stir allow it to start boil in medium flame.
In 1/2 tsp of ghee fry mustard seeds, red chilly, curry leaves and add it on the top. Add Coriander leaves. Once rasam comes to boil, switch off, transfer and close with a lid. Don’t allow to boil.
Now healthy, attractive Beetroot Rasam is ready to serve hot as a soup or rasam with rice.
