Peanut Sundal recipe

Peanut Sundal recipe. This can be prepared for pooja in Navarathri days. Also suited for poriyal & tea-time snack.

Ingredients :

Raw peanut- 200g; oil;salt;mustard seeds; curry , coriander leaves; coconut; asafoetida;
To Powder:
Channa Dhal -1 tsp : coriander seeds -1 tsp : red chillies -4 : jeera _1/2 tsp
Dry roast and make it to a fine powder.

Steps :

Soak peanut for 6 hours. Cook for 3 whistles. Add salt & cook in open lid for 2 minutes. In 1 spoon oil, fry mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves. Add peanuts, powder & cook in slow flame for 2 mins. Add coconut, coriander leaves.

Kalkandu Pal Pongal recipe

Kalkandu Pal Pongal recipe made using Kalkandu (Rock Candy). Using kalkandu and milk gives a creamy sweet pongal. This is a prasadham commonly used for pooja.

Ingredients:

Raw rice – 1 small cup : kalkandu – 1 1/2 cup: milk -2 cup : ghee-3 tsp: cardamon powder- 1/4 spoon: cashew nuts : dry grapes

Steps:

Wash and soak rice for 30 minutes. Boil 3 cups of water and 1 cup of milk, add rice, cook for 3 whistles. Put kalkandu in 1 cup of water and boil it to melt. Mash the cooked rice well, add kalkandu water, 1 cup of milk, and cook in slow flame for 3 minutes. In a spoon of ghee fry cashew nuts, dry grapes, add this to pongal. Add cardamon powder and 2 spoons of ghee.

Aval Sundal | Rice Flakes Channa

Aval Sundal is a Navaratri special recipe made using aval (Rice Flakes), chick peas

You can make quick recipes using Rice Flakes. No need to cook, just soak and do Uppma, sweets, Gheer, etc.. Aval Sundal Recipe is suitable for breakfast, dinner, Snacks and also for lunch. You can do this as prasadam for Navarathri.

Ingredients:

Thick Rice flakes -1 cup, Channa -1/4 cup, Onion -1/2, green chillies -4, oil, salt, mustard seeds, gram, ulund Dhal, asafoetida, turmeric powder, Lemon juice -1 tsp, curry, coriander leaves.

Steps

Soak Channa for 8 hours and cook for 2 whistles. Wash and soak the Rice flakes for 30 minutes. Add salt for Channa and Soaked Rice flakes. In 3 spoons of oil Fry mustard seeds, dhals, onion, chilly powder, turmeric powder, asafoetida, curry leaves. Add Channa and rice flakes without water. Mix well and add coriander leaves. Switch off and add Lemon juice. Aval Sundal is ready.

How to extract Coconut Milk

This video shows how to take coconut milk .

Take 3 table spoons of coconut and add little warm water ( not hot water ) Grind it to a fine paste. Add some water & filter as shown now you get the first coconut milk,around 3/4 th cup ,if you want second coconut milk do the same process once again.

Another method to take coconut milk with out mixie,boil 1 small cup of water & put 3 table spoons of coconut & keep aside for 15 mts, squeeze the coconut & filter as shown,this is first coconut milk ,if you want second coconut milk do the same process again.
We are using boiling water to take the coconut milk,so you use this coconut milk only for your recipes.

Tamarind Rice | கோவில் புளியோதரை

Right method to cook tamarind rice that is to be taken along while travelling for 2-3 days. It can be kept outside for 2-3 days. It tastes like tamarind rice given in temples with great aroma & lovely flavor.

Ingredients :
Rice- 200 g; Tamarind- lemon size; Gingerly oil- 6 spoons; Mustard seed; ulund & gram dal; asafoetida; turmeric powder; rock salt; red chilly- 5; jaggery- 1 teaspoon; curry leaves.
To powder :
Coriander seeds- 1 1/2 teaspoon; pepper- 1/2 teaspoon; jeera- 1 teaspoon. Dry roast all these & make it as a coarse powder.

Steps :

Rice must be cooked to 3/4th stage. Add freshly made powder to the rice & 1 spoon of gingelly oil, mix gently & keep aside. Take out pulp form tamarind & boil it for 10 mins, in medium flame. In 5 spoons of gingelly oil, fry mustard seeds, ulund, gram dals, asafoetida, turmeric powder, splitted red chilly, curry leaves. Add the boiled tamarind pulp, salt & allow to cook for 2-3 mins. Add jaggery, mix well & switch off. Let the rice & the paste cool down to room temperature. Mix both together, check the salt.

Rava Pongal | ரவா பொங்கல்

Pongal is a south Indian tiffen. This is a easy recipe for Rava Pongal.This goes along with coconut chutney & sambar.

Ingredients:
Sooji rava -3/4 cup. moong dhal- 1/4 cup, pepper- 1 tea spoon, jeera- 1 tea spoon,green chilly -1, ginger-1/2 inch, curry leaves, cashew nut- 4, oil, ghee, salt, assfotida, turmeric powder, milk -1/2 glass.

Dry roast rava, moong dhal separately.wash ,soak moong dhal for 15 minutes. In 3 1/2 cups of boiling water add soaked moong dhal, pintch of turmeric powder, salt. Add roasted rava as shown. mix well, cook for 2 whistel .In 3 spoons of oil fry pepper, jeera cashew,assafotida, ginger, green chilly, curry leaf. Add it to pongal ,add milk .check salt. if u want add and mix well. Add a table spoon of ghee.
Serve along coconut chutney & sambar.

Vegetable Rava Upma

Rava upma is an easy to make tiffen item, this video shows a healthy vegetable rava upma making.

Ingredients :

Sooji rava- 1 glass; onion- 1; green chilly- 4; carrot,beans,green peas- all together 1 cup’ ginger- 1/2 inch; cashew- 3; salt; oil; ghee; mustard seeds; ulund & gram dal; curry, coriander & mint leaves.

Steps

Dry roast rava for 4 mins. In 4 spoons of oil, fry mustard seed,ulund,gram dals,cashews. Add chopped onion,green chillies,ginger. Fry for 2 mins. Add chopped vegies,curry leaves, 3 glasses of hot water,salt. Add rava ,close with a lid & allow for 1 whistle. Open & add ghee,mint ,coriander leaves & mix well.

Tomato Rice |தக்காளி சாதம்

A Spicy Tomato rice.

Ingredients

Country & Bangalore tomato each -4 pcs,big onion -1, small onions ,garlic cloves few pcs,green chilly – 2pcs, ginger,garlic paste -1 spoon,turmeric,garam masala powders each 1/4 spoon, coriander powder -1 spoon, red chilly powder -11/2 spoon,salt.oil.bay leaf,cinnamon,cloves,mustard seed,ulund,gram dhals,curry,mint,coriander leaves,rice -1 cup.

Steps
Cook 1 cup of rice,keep aside.In 5 spoons of oil add all the seasonings, chopped onions,garlic cloves & fry for 2 mts.Add green chilly,ginger garlic paste,finely chopped tomatoes,add all the powders,salt & cook for 5 mts, add 1/4 cup water curry,mint,coriander leaves mix well.Switch off & let it cool. Now mix the rice & masala gently.
