Peanut Sundal recipe. This can be prepared for pooja in Navarathri days. Also suited for poriyal & tea-time snack.
Raw peanut- 200g; oil;salt;mustard seeds; curry , coriander leaves; coconut; asafoetida;
Channa Dhal -1 tsp : coriander seeds -1 tsp : red chillies -4 : jeera _1/2 tsp
Dry roast and make it to a fine powder.
Soak peanut for 6 hours. Cook for 3 whistles. Add salt & cook in open lid for 2 minutes. In 1 spoon oil, fry mustard seeds, asafoetida, curry leaves. Add peanuts, powder & cook in slow flame for 2 mins. Add coconut, coriander leaves.
Kalkandu Pal Pongal recipe made using Kalkandu (Rock Candy). Using kalkandu and milk gives a creamy sweet pongal. This is a prasadham commonly used for pooja.
Raw rice – 1 small cup : kalkandu – 1 1/2 cup: milk -2 cup : ghee-3 tsp: cardamon powder- 1/4 spoon: cashew nuts : dry grapes
Wash and soak rice for 30 minutes. Boil 3 cups of water and 1 cup of milk, add rice, cook for 3 whistles. Put kalkandu in 1 cup of water and boil it to melt. Mash the cooked rice well, add kalkandu water, 1 cup of milk, and cook in slow flame for 3 minutes. In a spoon of ghee fry cashew nuts, dry grapes, add this to pongal. Add cardamon powder and 2 spoons of ghee.

Ragi flour-200gm: salt: dosa batter -3 tbs( or 3tsp rice flour ): onion:curry,coriander leaves: jeera -1 tsp:oil
Mix ragi flour, salt, dosa batter,along 1 glass water to a dosa batter consistency. Add jeera .Make dosa, put chopped onion,curry,coriander leaves .Add oil, close and cook in medium flame for 3 minutes. Turn it over and cook for 2 minutes.
Karamani Masiyal is a traditional dish also known as thataipayar masiyal is a healthy dish with less oil. During lack of vegetables, this is a good choice for rice and chappathi.
Karamani 1/4 cup, small onion – 6, garlic cloves – 6, tomato- 1/2 piece, tamarind- 2 inch, oil – 1spoon, jeera, mustard seeds, asfoetida, red chilly – 5, salt, onion vadakam, curry and coriander leaves.
Soak karamani lentils over night in 1 glass of water and cook it for 3 whistles. In 1/4 spoon of oil, fry the jeera, red chilly, onion, garlic. Add tomato, tamarind and mix well. Add this to cooked karamani and add 1/2 cup of water. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes. Add curry, coriander leaves and salt. once it cools down, grind it coarsely. In a spoon of oil fry mustard seeds, jeera, onion vadakam, 1red chilly, asafoetida, curry leaves. Add this to gravy and add some water, coriander leaves. Allow it to one boil.
Poriyal made with combination of drumstick leaves & karamani ( thatapair ).Tastes good and also rich in vitamins, calcium, iron & protein.
thataipair – 100 gms, drumstick leaves- a buntch ( 2 large cups ), onion-1, red chilly- 3, coconut- 1 table spoon,oil, salt, mustard seeds, jeera; jaggery- 1/2 spoon.
Soak thattaipayir for 8 hours. Cook for 1 whistle. Mix with some salt & keep aside. Clean the drumstick leaves ( Refer : How to clean Drumstick Leaves https://youtu.be/FTWe45cT3nM ). In 2 spoons of oil, fry mustard seeds, jeera; add onion, red chillies & fry. Add drumstick leaves, little salt, 1/4th cup of water. Cook for 1 whistle. Open , add cooked thataipayir, 1/2 spoon jaggery & cook for a minute. After the water drains completely, add grated coconut.
Oats- 2 cups; rava- 1 cup; flax seed powder- 2 tea spoons; salt; cooking soda; curd-2 table spoons;jeera, grated carrot; curry & coriander leaves.
Instead of sooji rava, wheat rava can also be used.
Powder the oats & flax seed coarsely. Mix oats, rava, salt,pinch of cooking soda, curd,jeera, water & make it to idly batter consistency. Keep it for 30 mins. It becomes thick, so add some more water, carrots, curry & coriander leaves. Make it as idlys : Cook for 8 mins in idly cooker.
Serve with coconut/coriander/tomato chutneys.

Sooji rava- 1 glass; onion- 1; green chilly- 4; carrot,beans,green peas- all together 1 cup’ ginger- 1/2 inch; cashew- 3; salt; oil; ghee; mustard seeds; ulund & gram dal; curry, coriander & mint leaves.
Dry roast rava for 4 mins. In 4 spoons of oil, fry mustard seed,ulund,gram dals,cashews. Add chopped onion,green chillies,ginger. Fry for 2 mins. Add chopped vegies,curry leaves, 3 glasses of hot water,salt. Add rava ,close with a lid & allow for 1 whistle. Open & add ghee,mint ,coriander leaves & mix well.
