Raw Turkey Berry, in Tamil known Sundai Kai is very good for health.
It kills unwanted bacteria in stomach and good for diabetes. Because of the bitterness, we don’t like to eat. Let us see how to make a dhal Kootu without bitterness. It will nice for rice and chappathi.
Moong dhal – 4 tbs
Sundai Kai – 1 cup ( 200 gm)
Small onions – 10
Garlic cloves – 6
Tomato – 1
Red chilly, green chilly – 1 each
Sambar powder, Rasam powder, turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp each
Gingerly oil – 1 tsp
Salt, mustard seeds, jeera, curry leaves.
Cut sundai kai into two and put in water. The extra seeds will go down in water.
Dry roast moong dhal, wash and soak it for 10 minutes. In a cooker add a glass of water, dhal, turmeric powder.
In oil fry sundai Kai for a minute and add it to the dhal and cook for 2 whistles.
In the same pan fry mustard seeds, jeera, add onion, chilly, garlic and fry for 2 minutes. Add tomato, Powders, salt and fry for 2 minutes.
Add cooked dhal to this, add little water and cook for 3,4 minutes. Add curry leaves and switch off.
Healthy Sundai Kai Kootu is ready now. Believe me, it will not be bitter.
