Pidi Karunai kilangu in English known as Slender Yam. We can see how to make a easy, tasty kulambu using this. This kulambu will be nice along with rice.
Pidi karunai kilangu – 500 gm
Small onion – 15
Garlic cloves – 8
Tomato – 1
Tamarind – Lemon size
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Sambar or kulambu powder –
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Jaggery – 1 tsp
Salt, gingerly oil, hing, Methi seeds, mustard seeds, Ulundu dhal, Channa dhal, curry leaves, Coriander leaves.
Cook the kilangu in cooker along water for 2 whistles. Peel the skin and cut.
Take out pulp from tamarind. In oil fry Methi seeds, mustard seeds, dhals, hing, curry leaves. Add onion, garlic and fry for 2 minutes.
Add tomato and fry for a minute, add kilangu mix, add all powders, salt and tamarind pulp.
Add water and allow it to boil for 5 minutes. Add jaggery, curry, Coriander leaves, mix and switch off. Add a tbs of gingerly oil over it.
It is ready now. Serve along with rice.. Any Kootu variety and fried Appalam will be nice along this.
