Normally Kollukatai is made by raw rice. Here we make it by using idly rice. This is a salted and spicy version.. So can be made for prasatham and also as a tiffen. It will be nice with coconut chutney.
Idly rice – 1 cup
Moong dhal – 2 tbs
Green chilly – 3
Gingerly oil – 2 tsp
Mustard seeds, asfotida, salt, curry leaves.
Wash and soak rice for 1 hour. Keep it in a strainer for 30 minutes.. There should be no water.
Dry roast and soak the moong dhal for 15 minutes.
Powder the rice as shown.. Without adding water.
Grind green chilly with little water and filter it
In oil fry mustard seeds, assafotida, curry leaves, add 2 cups of warm water, bring it to boil. Add salt
Add the rice flour as shown and cook in medium flame for 3,4 minutes. Add coconut.
Mix well and keep aside for 5 minutes, and now dip your hand in water and make Kollukatai as shown.
Steam them in a idly pot for 7,8 minutes.
