Simple Yam Poriyal recipe, suitable as a side dish for meals
Yam – 300 Gm
Onion – 1/2
Green chilly – 3
Red chilly – 1
Turmeric powder – 1/4 tsp
Chilly powder – 1/2 tsp
Tamarind – 2 inch
Coconut – 1 tbs
Salt, oil, mustard seeds, ulund gram dhals, curry, Coriander leaves
Select Yam with a thick skin. Peel the skin and chop it into fine cubes.
Put it in boiling water along tamarind piece. Cooking along tamarind will avoid itchiness in Yam. Close and cook for 6,7 minutes.
Check whether it cooked, and stain the water and remove tamarind.
In 3 tsp of oil fry mustard seeds, ulund, gram dhals, add onion, green, red chilly and fry for 3 minutes. Add cooked Yam, salt, turmeric, chilly powders, and add 1/4 cup water. Cook in open lid for 2,3 minutes until it becomes dry.
Add curry, Coriander leaves, coconut and mix well.
