A sweet made by raw rice and jaggery known as kalli in Tamil. This is especially made for the festival Thiruvathirai for Lord Shiva. So it is known as Thiruvathirai Kalli.
Raw rice – 1 glass
Jaggery – 1 to 1,1/4 glass
Water – 2, 1/2 glass to 3 glass
(use the same glass for all measures)
Coconut – 2 tbs
Cashews – 4
Ghee – 4 tbs
Cardamom powder – 1/8 tsp
Wash and soak rice for 30 minutes. Stain the water and keep it for 30 minutes.
Dry roast it for 4,5 minutes, until it get roasted as shown. Grind it to a powder.
In a heavy bottom Kadai, put jaggery and 2,1/2 glass of water and let it boil and jaggery melts. Add the powdered rice as shown.
Cook in low flame, if necessary add 1/2 glass of water. Close it and cook in very low flame for 5 minutes.
In 1 tbs of ghee, fry coconut and add it to the kalli. Add cardamom powder, mix and switch off.
Fry cashews in 1 tbs of ghee and add it. Add 2 tbs of ghee over it.
It is ready now. Try and offer this kalli to Lord Shiva on Thiruvathirai. Enjoy this prasatham and send me your feedback and comments.
