Banana flower – 1
Clean and cut it as shown.. Or refer Gowri Samayalarai for cleaning and cutting method of banana flower.
Coconut – 5,6 tbs
Ulund dhal – 2 tsp
Gram Dhal – 1 tsp
Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
Pepper – 1/4 tsp
Jeera – 1 tsp
Small onions – 10
Garlic cloves – 6
Green chilly – 2
Red chilly – 3
Tamarind – Amla size
Gingerly oil, hing, salt, turmeric powder.
Add cleaned and chopped banana flower in a cooker along a glass of water, little salt and turmeric powder, cook for 1 whistle. Open and stain the water.
In 3 tsp of gingerly oil fry dhals, Coriander seeds, pepper, jeera. Add chilly, small onions, garlic and fry for 2,3 minutes. Add cooked banana flower and fry for 2 minutes.
Add coconut, salt, hing, tamarind and mix well. Grind into a smooth chutney, by adding little water.
You can keep it as a thick Thuvayal for rice. Or can mix some water and make it as a chutney for idly, dosa.
In a tsp of gingerly oil, fry 1/2 tsp mustard seeds, 1/2 tsp ulund dhal, 1/2 tsp gram dhal and curry leaves. Add it to the chutney.
